A technological leap in the Vilnius district: up to 10 Gb/s internet is now available to residents

Šalčininkai-based Etanetas, the country's fibre-optic internet pioneer, has taken an important step in improving service quality for its customers. The company was the first in the Vilnius district to offer internet speeds reaching up to 10 Gb/s, which Vilnius district residents and businesses can already use now.

As Etanetas CEO Artur Stefanovič states, this technological leap is the result of consistent investments in modern fibre infrastructure and the highest-reliability network solutions. According to him, the new 10 Gb/s connection will give a strong boost to regional residents in deploying smart home technologies, because it ensures even greater internet stability and allows using several devices at once without disruptions, watching high-resolution content or working with data-intensive applications.

"Our goal has always been to ensure that not only large cities but also regional residents have access to high-level internet. That is why in recent years we have worked consistently and intensively — we upgraded technical nodes, expanded the network infrastructure and deployed the most modern connectivity solutions, so that we could offer even greater speed and reliability. Internet users' needs grow every year, and regional residents are no less receptive to technologies than those in large cities. We hope that residents wishing to use internet speeds reaching up to 10 Gb/s will effortlessly harness all modern technologies in their everyday lives," he says.

Up to 10 Gb/s is achievable only through fibre-optic networks

According to Etanetas CEO A. Stefanovič, Lithuania is rapidly advancing along the path of technological progress and is becoming one of the countries most actively developing digital infrastructure in Europe. So it is natural that it is sometimes difficult for users to make sense of the possibilities of different connectivity technologies. As he notes, not every resident knows that at present only fibre-optic technology can ensure a stable and realistically achievable speed of up to 10 Gb/s.

"In Lithuania, 5G connectivity is also being deployed exceptionally rapidly — this is a positive step, increasing residents' access to modern technologies. But for those wanting internet capable of reaching the maximum highest speed, it is important to know that 10 Gb/s speed is currently possible only via a fibre-optic connection. A fibre-optic connection stands out for its exceptional stability — it is practically insensitive to weather conditions, network loads or various disruptions, and therefore allows using the maximum speed without any compromises. This is the most reliable choice for users to whom not only the highest possible speed but also absolute connection stability is important," says A. Stefanovič.

What possibilities does 10 Gb/s internet open up?

A 10 Gb/s connection provides real advantages both for business and for residents.

For business, it means faster data transmission, more reliable work in the cloud, the ability to serve large flows of customers without disruptions, and the use of data-intensive technologies.

For residents, such speed is especially handy when many modern technologies are used at home: 4K or even 8K resolution content is streamed, online games are played, and virtual or augmented reality solutions are used. In addition, in modern homes more and more devices connect at the same time — from computers and phones to smart TVs, game consoles and smart home control systems. That is why exceptionally high speed is needed, capable of ensuring smooth operation for all devices at once.

Etanetas is an internet and TV services company that has been operating for more than 20 years and began providing internet connectivity in 2004–2005. Just a year later the company became the first in Lithuania to offer fibre-optic internet to the residents of Šalčininkai, thus establishing itself as a true pioneer of fibre connectivity in the Vilnius region.

Starting from the town network, the company consistently expanded its activities — first into the district, and later beyond its borders. Eight years ago Etanetas expanded its services to Skaidiškės, Rudamina, Salininkai and Pagiriai in the Vilnius district, as well as to all the multi-unit buildings in Naujoji Vilnia.

With the new 10 Gb/s internet speed, Etanetas strives to build a digital future not only in large cities but also in Lithuania's regions. While investing in technological renewal, the company pays great attention to sustainability. In early 2025, using European Union support, the company installed next-generation servers with four times more powerful and efficient processors. The renewed infrastructure not only increases data processing speed but also makes it possible to reduce electricity consumption by almost half.
