Etanetas — a significant innovation: four times more efficiency with half the cost

Etanetas, one of the first internet providers in Lithuania, will from now on offer its customers not only fast and reliable internet but also highly sustainable services. With European Union (EU) support, the company installed the latest servers, which have more efficient processors that are four times more powerful and will use nearly half as much electricity. It is planned that lower electricity consumption will reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the air by up to 41 tonnes per year compared with the present.

As Etanetas CEO Artur Stefanovič notes, people are increasingly using technology, which inevitably means higher energy consumption and a greater impact on the environment.

Nevertheless, according to him, Etanetas has for some time already singled out energy saving and ecology among its priority goals.

"I believe that in order for us to live in a cleaner environment, absolutely all companies, regardless of the field in which they operate, must look for ways to reduce their ecological footprint and use energy efficiently.

In our company's case, when carrying out server upgrades, we managed to make strong progress, because the company's old servers, with processors from 2012–2015, used a lot of electricity and were less efficient than the new servers with 2020–2022 processors. The new-generation servers use more efficient processors that consume less energy. So it is obvious that after these changes, we will be able not only to provide customers with top-level services but also to be more sustainable," he says.

The company estimates that the investment in the new servers will pay off within 18–24 months, and that this can be achieved fairly quickly not only because of reduced energy consumption but also because of the maintenance costs of the servers themselves.

"A lot of value comes from the mere fact that the new processors have higher performance than the old ones — one new server can replace two old, less efficient servers. This means not only lower energy consumption but also lower server maintenance costs.

In addition, due to the higher performance of the new processors, data processing speed is higher. So this means we will be able to process more data faster, and as a result customers will also enjoy faster and higher-quality internet," A. Stefanovič explains.

Etanetas is a reliable, fast internet and TV services company that has been operating for more than 20 years. The company began providing internet services back in 2004–2005, and a year later it already offered fibre-optic internet and was the first provider to bring fibre to Šalčininkai.

It first built its fibre network in the town, then expanded it into the district, and later beyond its borders. Eight years ago the company began providing fibre-optic internet to residents of the Vilnius district in Rudamina, Salininkai and Pagiriai, as well as to all residents of the multi-unit buildings in Naujoji Vilnia.
